The Engineering Physics Program

The OSU Engineering Physics program is an interdisciplinary program combining traditional engineering training with a rigorous foundation in physics, with particular emphasis on new technologies. They stress the fundamentals of science while giving the student exposure to the application of these fundamentals. As a result, a graduate of any one of the above programs will be able to choose between several career paths in many branches of engineering and technology. There is greater flexibility for the student in his/her choice of career among a diverse range of opportunities, including applied physics, photonics and laser optics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, and computer science. The programs are also excellent preparation for medical school, business school, or patent law, and are a sound stepping stone into graduate school in either applied physics or engineering. The programs are influenced by current market trends in the high-tech industry and derive strength from the research specializations of the OSU engineering and physics departments.

The Engineering Physics Program is offered through the cooperation of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT) and the College of Arts and Sciences . The program has the flexibility to accommodate those who wish to be professional engineers but who also have a special interest in the fundamental physics of the knowledge they apply, and those who see themselves as applied physicists with an inclination to apply their basic knowledge to problems in engineering.

The program is based on the standard degrees offered by CEAT and the Physics Department. The options include:
