The Engineering Physics Program

Double Major Option

This may be done as a 5-yr degree program leading to a double major in one of the major engineering subjects and applied physics. The total hours depend upon the engineering discipline chosen. The choice available gives students excellent flexibility, and a wide range of career options. The degree obtained labels the student as one who is well grounded in both the fundamental and practical aspects of his technological career choice. The engineering component is ABET accredited. Enrollment for the Double Major Option can be through either CEAT or the College of Arts and Sciences.

Examples of Double Major Combinations

Other Engineering-Physics combinations are possible; check with your advisor.

Physics and Mechanical Engineering Double Major

Mechanical Engineering: 124 hr. All requirements as per degree sheet in Mechanical Engineering (Major 4201), but with PHYS 3313 chosen as the Professional School Basic Science Option.

Physics: 16 hr. PHYS 3013, PHYS 3213, PHYS 3322, PHYS 3513, PHYS 3622, PHYS 4113

Notes:
  1. The Physics degree is the Applied Physics degree (Major 1683) - the 17 hrs + 26 hrs electives come from Mech. Eng. (Example: 6 hr from ENSC 3233 & 3313; 9 hr. from MAE 3033, 3113, 3223; 12 hr. from MAE 3233, 3323, 3403, 3723; 16 hrs from MAE Category I-VI)
  2. Substitute MAE 3223 for PHYS 3113; substitute PHYS 3313 for PHYS 3713.

TOTAL HOURS for Double Major: 140 hr

Physics and Electrical Engineering Double Major

Electrical Engineering: 133 hr. All requirements as per degree sheet in Electrical Engineering (Major 4141).

Physics: 19 hr. PHYS 3013, PHYS 3113, PHYS 3213, PHYS 3322, PHYS 3513, PHYS 3622, PHYS 4113

Notes:
  1. Physics degree is the Applied Physics degree (Major 1683) - the 17 hr + 26 hr electives come from Elect. Eng. (Example: 6 hr from ENSC 3233 & 3313; 27 hr. from ECEN 3113, 3233, 3313, 3513, 3613, 3713, 4013, 4023 and 4503, plus 10 hr. from other ECEN courses.)
  2. PHYS 3313 substitutes for PHYS 3713

TOTAL HOURS for Double Major: 152

Physics and Civil Engineering Double Major

Civil Engineering: 136 hr. All requirements as per degree sheet in Civil Engineering (Major 4121), but with PHYS 3013 for the Professional School Basic Science Option, and with PHYS 3113 substituting for ENSC 2213.

Physics: 16 hr. PHYS 3213, PHYS 3322, PHYS 3513, PHYS 3622, PHYS 3713, PHYS 4113

Notes:
  1. Physics degree is the Applied Physics degree (Major 1683) - the 17 hrs + 26 hrs electives come from Civil Eng. (Example: 6 hr from ENSC 3233 & 3313; 37 hr. from CIVEN 3413, 3513, 3523, 3614, 3633, 3713, 3813, 3833, 3843, 4042, 4043, 4273, 4711, or 4833)
  2. PHYS 3313 may substitute for PHYS 3713
